ZAMBOANGA (Updated, 3:58 p.m.) — At least seven Filipino marines and four Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed in a clash Saturday as the military launched an offensive against al-Qaeda-linked gunmen who have been blamed for recent kidnappings and of trying to sabotage a road project in the island province of Sulu, military officials said Saturday.

THE police have arrested to wanted persons, including a policeman, in a west coast village in Zamboanga city, a top police official reported Friday.
Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Diomarie Albarico said the police separately arrested Police Officer 3 Allan Duque and Nabil Darris.

AN OFFICIAL of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has warned the public against the proliferation of systematized scam in Zamboanga area concerning right-of-way claims.
The warning was issued Friday by NGCP spokesperson laywer Cynthia Alabanza after they received reports that an organized group is contacting land owners who live or have properties along or under the transmission company’s lines and facilities.
